David Hudson, M.S. was formerly the Director of Shape up Somerville (SUS) at the Somerville Health Department. SUS is a city-wide strategy to increase daily physical activity and healthy eating through systems change using the collective impact model. The strategy targets all segments of the community, including schools, government, civic organizations, community groups, businesses, and other people who live in, work in, and visit Somerville. His previous experience includes managing the Healthy Active Schools Program in Portland, OR. His program in Portland partnered with 7 school districts, 62 SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods) after school programs, and several community-based organizations to adopt and implement healthy eating and physical activity policies and environmental changes. He worked on the original CDC-funded SUS team from 2003-2005 at the Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy addressing childhood obesity prevention. His master’s degree is from the Tufts University School of Medicine.
